Job Description

Company Name:
Power Semiconductors and Applications Center (PowerSAC)

Job Title: Research Scientist / Analog Circuit Design Engineer (RP2)

Ref. No.: PowerSAC0015

Power Semiconductors and Applications Center (PowerSAC), established under the SEAM@InnoHK initiative, is seeking a Research Scientist to contribute to and help lead the scientific and technical development of analog and mixed-signal circuits for power-delivery systems.

The appointee will report directly to the Programme Lead. The appointee’s main responsibility is to design, characterize, and evaluate integrated circuits to address emerging challenges in PMIC systems, including but not limited to voltage/current sensing circuit design, reference circuit design, and control circuit design. The overarching goal is to leverage advanced IC design techniques to drive the next generation of reliable, energy-efficient, and compact power systems.

Key Responsibilities:

The appointee will be responsible for:

  • Research and develop analog/mixed signal circuit blocks and circuit systems for PMICs, focusing on reliability improvements, energy efficiency improvements, and size reduction.
  • Design, simulate, optimize, and verify transistor-level analog/mixed-signal circuits, emphasizing energy efficiency, accuracy, transient response, robustness, and process scalability.
  • Plan and perform silicon-level testing, laboratory characterization, and debug; correlate measured results with simulations and feed findings into the next design iteration.
  • Prepare design reviews, technical reports, project deliverables, publications, patent disclosures, and other documentation; contribute to funding proposals and supervise junior researchers or students where appropriate.
  • Work with other research programmes to evaluate circuit-level performance boost from device innovations and translate system requirements to implementable IC specifications.

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Microelectronics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline; candidates with a Master's degree and substantial relevant IC design experience may also be considered.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analog/mixed-signal CMOS IC design, including a clear record of designing circuits from schematic through layout, tape-out, and laboratory measurement.
  • Experience with silicon evaluation, automated measurement, test-board/debug work, and BCD high voltage tapeout is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, communicate clearly in English, and collaborate effectively across IC design, power electronics, and system teams. Chinese proficiency is advantageous.
  • Evidence of research or product impact through tape-outs, publications, patents, IP, or technology-development projects is strongly preferred.

We welcome candidates whose primary strength is precision analog, mixed-signal, high-voltage sensing, senseFET, DrMOS, clock/reference, gate driver IC design, or power-management circuit design. The initial project scope will be matched to the appointee's experience, with mentoring and opportunities to broaden into converter control, PMIC integration, and full-chip ownership.

REMUNERATION AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.
