Job Description
Company Name:
Power Semiconductors and Applications Center (PowerSAC)
Job Title: Research Scientist (RP4)
Ref. No.: PowerSAC0010
PowerSAC is seeking a Research Scientist to support the development of a next-generation power delivery architecture based on 800 V HVDC distribution, WBG-based power conversion, advanced magnetics, and GaN-enabled vertical power delivery for AI processors.
Reporting to the Programme Lead, the appointee will contribute to the design, simulation, hardware implementation, testing, and optimization of high-efficiency, high-density, high-transient-response power converters for AI data centre applications, including 380 Vac-to-800 Vdc rectifiers, 800 Vdc-to-48/12 Vdc converters, and 48/12 Vdc-to-1 V vertical power delivery modules.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct R&D on grid-to-chip power delivery systems for AI data centres, covering AC/DC, DC/DC, and point-of-load conversion stages.
- Support the development of WBG-based multilevel inverters/rectifiers, supercapacitor-based power pulsation buffers, and partial power processing architectures for 800 V HVDC distribution.
- Contribute to the design and optimization of 800 Vdc-to-48/12 Vdc LLC converters, and GaN-based 48/12 V-to-1 V vertical power delivery modules for high-current AI data center.
- Perform circuit simulation, magnetic design, PCB/package-level power integrity analysis, parasitic extraction, hardware testing, and control-loop validation.
- Prepare technical reports, publications, patent disclosures, project deliverables, and milestone documentation.
- Work closely with academic collaborators, industry partners, engineers, and external fabrication/testing facilities to deliver programme milestones.
Requirements
- PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Power Electronics, Power Systems, Semiconductor Power Applications, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong background in power electronics converters, preferably voltage regulator module (VRM), multiphase Buck, switched-capacitor converters (SC), LLC, SC-LLC, SC-Buck, trans-inductor voltage regulator (TLVR), or 48V/800V data-centre power architectures.
- Hands-on experience in high-current/high-voltage power module design, hardware prototyping, control-loop design, magnetic component design, and converter testing.
- Experience with Experience with simulation and design tools such as LTspice, Simplis, Virtuoso, Simulink, Ansys/Maxwell, Q3D, Cadence, and Altium.
- Familiarity with WBG power device applications, digital power controller (DSP/MCU/FPGA) and integrated planar magnetics would be an advantage.
- Proven research track record through publications, project outputs, patents, or technology-development experience.
- Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and teamwork skills; good command of written and spoken English, with Chinese proficiency advantageous.
